So my Korean Dad had my brothers and I perform an impromptu "Sae Bae" on New Years Day.
(Refer to Janet's blog for more info on the ceremony: http://janetsmusingsandmisadventures.blogspot.com/2008/01/blog-post.html )
Well, my bros and I had only participated in this once before when we were babies when we bowed to our grandmother, so we didn't exactly know what we were doing. Anyways, my parents sat crosslegged on pillows in front of the stovetop fireplace. My brothers decided I would go first b/c my brothers are wankers. I began to bow, but not before nearly falling into the fireplace b/c I lack the balance of even a lame wildebeast. After "showing respect" for my parents, I moonwalked out of the livingroom. My dad was not amused.
Then my 18 yr old brother went. He was pretty good, right up until the point where he too proceeded to moonwalk out of the room.
My youngest brother then went, but because he hadn't been paying attention, he performed some sort of strange combination between a girl's bow and a boy's bow. My dad had been trying to be serious, proclaiming, "새해 복 많이 받으세요" to each of us. But my white mom giggled the whole time. I told my dad that we didn't really deserve money for all that, it was quite possibly the worst Sae Bae he had ever witnessed, but he gave us money anyway. We then ate Korean cakes and popcorn.
