If you are skiing, and your snow companion is snowboarding, then how might you describe the combined activity?
Together, are you skiing? Or are you snowboarding? Is it like in Spanish, when a chico and a chica are hanging out, together they become chicos?
I'd like to proffer that "ski" and all related conjugations be adopted as the ubiquitous term for any group of people that are doing both activities. Skiing is the older "classic" sport, it allows you to cover more terrain on the mountain (snowboards can't tackle moguls), and is it really a good idea to strap both feet onto a single slab of skateboard shaped wood?...I don't think so. At least skis will pop off when you're tumbling down a mountain, thus allowing you to halt your snowball of death. Plus, just the act of strapping your feet into the snowboard bindings is such a commitment. It's like saying, "I take you, my snowboard, come heaven or hell, for as long as we both shall live as long as we are flying down this mountain." It's more commitment than any sport should ask of a person.
Thus, use "ski" to describe any group ski/snowboard activity.
